Brockton elementary student hit by vehicle at bus stop, hospitalized

A Brockton elementary school student was struck by a passing vehicle after exiting the school bus Monday after school, the district confirmed.

The Hancock School student suffered non-life threatening injuries and was evaluated at a local medical facility as a precaution, Brockton Public Schools said in a statement.

Hancock School enrolls students in Pre-K through fifth grade. 

The accident took place at a school bus stop near the Manthala George Jr. Elementary School around 3:30 p.m. Monday. The child was hit by a passing vehicle, the district said.

The district said the stopped bus’s red lights and stop sign were both activated at the time. Brockton police also responded to the scene.

“We are grateful that this incident did not result in a tragedy,” Brockton’s Acting Superintendent James Cobbs said. “We urge all drivers to exercise extreme caution around schools and bus stops to ensure the safety of students.”
