A man was arrested Friday after he fled the scene of a fiery car crash in Yarmouth, police said.
Arthur Garabrant III, 42, of South Yarmouth is charged with negligent driving, marked lanes violation, and leaving the scene of an accident after officials found the car he was driving unoccupied and engulfed in flames, Yarmouth police said in a statement Saturday.
Yarmouth police responded to a 911 call reporting a car crash with a car on fire at around 11:56 p.m. Feb. 23.
“Despite potential risks to their safety, officers broke the driver’s side front and rear windows to gain access to the passenger compartment,” police said in the statement. “Fortunately, it was determined that the vehicle was unoccupied.”
The Yarmouth Fire Department also responded to the incident and put the fire out “quickly,” according to the statement. Garabrant was found at a nearby residence and subsequently charged.
The vehicle was a “total loss,” police said.
