Prisoner escapes from transport vehicle in Waltham, taken back into custody

Victor de Moura-Pereira of Framingham escaped from a transport vehicle on Route 65 southbound Monday night, police said.

A prisoner was returned to custody Monday night after escaping from a transport vehicle on I-95 in Waltham, State Police said. 

The prisoner was identified as Victor de Moura-Pereira, 20, of Framingham. He was initially arrested by Framingham police Sunday and is charged with multiple counts of assault and battery on a police officer, State Police said in a statement.

The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department notified State Police at about 6 p.m. Monday that a prisoner had escaped from a transport vehicle on I-95 southbound prior to Exit 41 in Waltham, the statement said.

Moura-Pereira was taken into custody in the area of Second Avenue in Waltham Monday night, according to State Police.

Moura-Pereira was transferred to the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and is currently subject to a detainer, police said.

Numerous assets were deployed in the search for Moura-Pereira, including State Police’s Air Wing, K9, and drone unit.
