A Newton man is facing charges of attempted arson and destruction of property in connection with a Sunday incident at a Seaport restaurant.
Boston police said officers responded to 22 Liberty Dr., the address for LoLa 42, around 6:35 p.m. to reports of an act of vandalism in progress. At the scene, officers were told that the suspect, later identified as 33-year-old David Gong of Newton, had been refused service by the establishment since he was allegedly intoxicated when he arrived.
Gong allegedly then threw his water at the bar and then went into the restroom, police said.
“He engaged in destructive behavior and upon exiting informed the staff that there was a fire in the bathroom,” police said.
Boston fire responded and extinguished the fire in the bathroom’s trash can.
Officers arrested Gong outside the restaurant.
Police said the 33-year-old is facing charges of burning of a public building, burning of personal property, attempt to burn a public building, attempted arson of a dwelling house, and malicious destruction of property.
