A New Hampshire woman who had been reported missing was found near her home in freezing conditions and later died, according to officials.
The 31-year-old woman was a resident of Richmond, New Hampshire. Her identity is being withheld pending the notification of her family, the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department said.
She was last seen leaving her home in Richmond last Thursday afternoon and was reported missing by her family on Saturday. Richmond is located on the border of Massachusetts, south of Keene, New Hampshire, and north of Athol.
The woman was found by a K-9 team at 10:45 a.m. Sunday approximately one mile from her residence, officials said. She was in critical condition. Temperatures were in the mid-20s when she was found but had dropped as low as 7 degrees overnight, according to data from the National Weather Service.
Rescuers carried the woman in a litter a short distance to Route 119. They made an immediate request for a medical helicopter and brought her to a landing zone at the Richmond Fire Department. Members of the Richmond Fire Department and Cheshire County EMS gave her treatment while they waited for the helicopter to arrive.
It touched down at about 11:35 a.m., and the woman was flown to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester.
“Unfortunately, she did not survive her cold weather injuries,” officials said.
