DA identifies 11-year-old girl killed in Middleborough house fire

First responders were unable to get inside the house to rescue the girl because of heavy fire conditions, officials said.

Officials have identified the 11-year-old girl who died in an early Saturday morning Middleborough house fire as Jasmine Lane.

A 61-year-old woman, a 59-year-old man, and another girl were taken to a hospital for treatment after the fire, officials said.

Middleborough fire and police departments were dispatched to 27 Pearl St. on Saturday at about 2 a.m. for reports of a structure fire with people trapped inside, Plymouth District Attorney Timothy Cruz’s office said in a press release Monday.

“Companies arrived on scene and found heavy fire coming from the first and second floors of the home,” the press release said. “Crews made an aggressive attack to prevent extension to nearby buildings.”

First responders tried to get inside the home to rescue Lane but were unable to due to “heavy fire conditions.” Once the fire was put out, Lane was found dead inside the home, Cruz’s office said.

An investigation into the fire is ongoing by the Middleborough Fire Department, Middleborough Police Department, the State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit, and Massachusetts State Police. Foul play is not suspected at this point, officials said.
