A Pine Street Inn resident saved a 3-pound puppy from a highway ramp in Boston last week.
The rescuer had seen the young, all-black, stray dog in the high-traffic Neponset Circle area for several days and quickly intervened when the pup wandered toward the busy roadway and along the highway on-ramp, according to the Animal Rescue League of Boston.
The community member took the dog to Pine Street Inn where homeless shelter staff took over and eventually brought the 10-week-old Chihuahua, named Sparkle, to the ARL’s Boston Animal Care and Adoption Center.
“Sparkle was frightened upon intake, and while she presented with an abnormal gait, she was determined to be in good overall health,” a release from the ARL noted.
The puppy was soon spayed and then made available for adoption this weekend.
She immediately found her forever home on Sunday, which the ARL credits the Pine Street Inn resident and staff for helping make happen.
“Weighing just 3 pounds and being an all-black dog, Sparkle is incredibly lucky she wasn’t struck by a vehicle, and ARL is extremely grateful to her rescuer,” the release noted.
