New Hampshire high school goes into lockdown after bullet found in bathroom

“We want to assure you that our students remain safe and supported.”

A New Hampshire high school went into lockdown on Tuesday after a single bullet was found in a bathroom and police responded to investigate.

The lockdown was initiated at Nashua High School North around 8:45 a.m., according to the district.

Nashua police said around 11 a.m. that the single round of ammunition was found in a bathroom on campus, but that no threats or messages were made in conjunction with the discovery.

No students or faculty were injured, and the school released students at 11:30 a.m., police said.

“We understand and respect that events like this can cause concern and many questions,” Nashua Superintendent Mario Andrade said in a statement. “We want to assure you that our students remain safe and supported. We appreciate the level of trust that is required in sending your children into our care and we want you to know that as educators and parents ourselves, we take that responsibility very seriously.”

During the course of the investigation, police identified the student who brought in the bullet, NBC10 Boston reports. The student told police they found the bullet on the ground off school property and brought it into the building where they showed the live round to another student. The second student attempted to get rid of the bullet, unsuccessfully, by flushing it down the toilet, the station reports.
