A Massachusetts woman died Saturday after a snowmobile crash while riding on a New Hampshire trail with her friends, the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department said.
Shawnee Hollis, 39, of North Brookfield, was riding with a group of three friends — all operating their own vehicles — when she crashed Friday afternoon. She was the “second in the group of four,” the department said in a press release.
The crash was first reported to officials at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Officials were able to track a GPS location to Primary Trail 109 in Milan, N.H., the department said.
Investigation showed that Hollis failed to “navigate a downhill left turn while traveling east on Primary Trail 109,” the press release said.
Attempts were made to transport Hollis to a hospital using an emergency helicopter or a fixed wing air ambulance, but “due to many circumstances,” they were not able to fly, the department said.
Hollis was transported by Milan and Dummer Ambulance to Androscoggin Valley Hospital before being transferred to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.
She died at approximately 1:45 a.m. on Saturday, officials said. Inexperience was the “leading factor” in the crash, the department said in the release.
Due to the location of the accident, the Berlin police and fire departments, Berlin EMS, Milan and Dummer Ambulance, and Milan Fire and Rescue responded to the crash. A conservation officer also responded to the incident after other responders were on scene.
