Man arrested in alleged attempted robbery in Swansea

A second suspect is still being sought by police.

A man was arrested on Monday following an attempted robbery in Swansea, and authorities are reportedly continuing to search for another suspect.

Swansea police responded to 330 Swansea Mall Drive around 12:50 p.m. for a report of an attempted robbery, WCVB reports. Authorities said two men approached a courier making a drop at BayCoast Bank, which was closed for the holiday.

The two men allegedly showed a gun and demanded money, but fled in a U-Haul when the courier fired two shots at them, according to WCVB. The U-Haul was later found burning on Reed Street.

According to WCVB, investigators said the suspects switched to a Jeep, which was later stopped in East Providence. The driver, 29-year-old Giovany Fouyolle of Randolph, was taken into custody.

The charges against him were not immediately released, according to WCVB, but he is reportedly being held by Rhode Island State Police as a fugitive from justice and will be extradited back to Massachusetts.
