A woman was rescued from a Lowell house fire on Friday and flown to a Boston hospital, and a firefighter who battled the blaze was also treated for minor injuries, according to officials.
Firefighters responded to a report of a fire on Temple Street around noon and arrived to find the top floor of the two-story home engulfed in flames, according to authorities. Video shared by local media shows heavy smoke billowing from the second-floor blaze as sirens wail in the background.

“The fire got a pretty good head start. When the companies first arrived, there was a lot of fire coming out of the top of that second floor,” Lowell Fire Chief Phillip Charron told WCVB. “They did a very good job getting quick work on it and making the rescues all at the same time, which is very, very challenging.”
The woman who was rescued likely suffered smoke inhalation, Charron told the news outlet. Once EMS stabilized her, she was taken to a local hospital and then flown to a Boston hospital via a medical helicopter. There was no update on her condition as of Friday evening, according to officials.
The firefighter who was injured received treatment at a Lowell-area hospital, Charron said.
The fire displaced five people and several pets, according to authorities. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
