Suspect in Tewksbury State Hospital stabbing in custody after police manhunt

The man allegedly fled the hospital grounds following the stabbing Thursday evening, police said.

A man allegedly involved in a stabbing at Tewksbury State Hospital Thursday evening and who fled the scene is now in custody, police said Friday morning.

Brian Kobs was believed to have left the area following the stabbing, despite Tewksbury Police efforts to search around the hospital using their drone unit, the State Police Air Wing, and multiple K-9 units.

Police then asked the public to for assistance in locating Kobs. Just before 9:30 a.m. Friday, police called off the search, stating that they found Kobs in Tewksbury and he was in custody.

A man was stabbed on hospital grounds at about 7 p.m. during a fight between the victim and suspect. Police said they do not believe this incident was random and that the two know each other.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
