MBTA power supply problems that impacted the Orange, Blue, and Green lines couldn’t have come at a worse time for Greater Boston riders: the Thursday morning work commute.
The MBTA issues were first reported at about 6:30 a.m. Some riders waited on platforms, while others were stuck on the subways. Late to work, cold, and frustrated, some Bostonians shared their feelings about the broken T on social media.

This is probably my fault for tweeting yesterday that I was excited to see the reduction in RL slow zones today. I forgot that being positive about the T inevitably causes it to fail. #MBTA https://t.co/aUCNalP99e

Another day, another issue.

It appeared some stations were left in the dark, including North Station and Haymarket, according to photos some social media users shared.

For Orange and Blue Line riders, the MBTA offered alternatives, even free commuter rail rides, due to the power issues. But Green Line riders weren’t so lucky and were left without options, according to posts shared on social media.
very cool that the mbta isn't even giving info about what sections of the green line are impacted… trains are running in front of my building at least but like just communicate with us?????

This is outrageous. Someone needs to be held responsible. There are literally no other green line alternate options.

Thanks for all the alternate green line options! Love that our service was closed for a month to come back to this 🥰
— Derek Donato (@derek7348) February 15, 2024
Green line passengers can take today off.
— Cara02152 (@Clee02128) February 15, 2024
And those who were on the subways experienced slow-moving or completely immobilized rides.
Can we open the doors to our train at community college so we can get off at least?

As of 8:30 a.m. Thursday the MBTA told riders on Twitter that the three lines were still experiencing “significant delays,” and that Haymarket would be bypassed due to lights out at the station.
Green Line: Trains are currently bypassing Haymarket in both directions due to insufficient lighting at the station. Passengers can connect at North Station and Government Center. Orange Line trains will continue to service the station.
— MBTA (@MBTA) February 15, 2024
Service Update: Green Line, Blue Line, and Orange Line continue to experience significant delays. MBTA personnel continue to work on restoring power.
— MBTA (@MBTA) February 15, 2024
While this work is being done, Countdown Clocks in stations may not give real time predictions.
See alternate options below. https://t.co/Yoj6tBo3Wu
As of about 9:20 a.m., the T was reporting that power and service had been mostly restored on all three lines.
Service Update: Power along the Green and Blue Lines has been restored. Green Line Trains have resumed service to Haymarket Station. https://t.co/4gBl0JEj8E
— MBTA (@MBTA) February 15, 2024
Orange Line Update: Power has been restored along most of the line. Orange Line riders may experience additional delays as we work to restore power between Forest Hills and Stony Brook.
