A Tyngsborough man got quite the Valentine’s Day gift this year — $1 million.
All thanks to his mom.
Matthew Broadley was given a Valentine’s Day card on Tuesday from his mother, and inside, according to the Massachusetts State Lottery Commission, were two instant tickets. He scratched the tickets around 11 p.m. and found that on the second one, he won big.
According to the lottery commission, Broadley brought his mother’s card with him when he claimed his prize at the lottery headquarters in Dorchester on Valentine’s Day.
“Thanks, mom,” he said, according to the commission.
Broadley opted to get his prize in the form of a one-time payment of $650,000 (before taxes) and said he does not have immediate plans for his winnings.
According to the commission, the winning scratch ticket was purchased at Lakeview General Store in Tyngsborough. The shop will get a $10,000 bonus for selling the ticket.
