A baby in Rhode Island died Sunday, and four adults are now charged in connection with his death, police said.
Pawtucket police responded to an apartment on Arthur Street around 10 a.m. Sunday morning, when the 1-year-old child was found unresponsive. The baby was not breathing and had “significant bruising” on his face before he was transported to the hospital, police said. He later died at Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence.
Three women and one man are charged in connection to the child’s “suspicious” death, police said, all of whom lived in the apartment.
Joao Resendes, 25, is charged with manslaughter, three counts of second degree child abuse, and child endangerment.
Carolina Ledo, 22, Daniela Ledo, 25, and Carla Sousa, 32, are each charged with one count of child endangerment.
According to the Boston Globe, Resendes and Ledo are the boy’s parents, Daniela is his aunt, and Sousa has no relation. A GoFundMe for 1-year-old Santiago wants to raise $5,000 for a memorial.
“An unexpected death,” organizer Adriana Vivieros wrote. “Our 1 year old Santiago has left us… no one has expected this to happen….. if anyone could please donate to help us out and give him a great memorial… our angel Santiago.”
