Look out for a new commercial featuring the Massachusetts State Lottery’s new $50 scratch-off ticket featuring a certain Taylor during the Super Bowl between the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Unfortunately, it’s not the Taylor everyone is thinking of.
In case you’ve been in seclusion these last few months, Kansas City tight end Travis Kelce has created quite the media storm since he began dating mega-pop star Taylor Swift.
Capitalizing on that interest, the lottery got a 15-second commercial slot during the Super Bowl to promote its new “Lifetime Millions” game.
The commercial begins with, “To endorse the Mass Lottery’s new $50 instant ticket, we got the one name everyone is talking about” while showing three of the tickets taking up the whole viewing area.
The commercial continues with “That’s right … it’s Taylor!” while a distinctly un-Taylor Swift-looking figure walks up behind the tickets.
“Shane Taylor, from our marketing team,” finishes the voiceover. Shane Taylor, who is holding up one of the lottery tickets, then says, “Wait, what is this for?”
This humorous play on Taylor Swift’s involvement with the Super Bowl will be on a five-week run, including the Super Bowl slot.
Lottery Executive Director William Bracken said the cost of making the ad was very little.
“We sent Shane out, he got a haircut, came back to the office and he did the ad,” Bracken said.
The ad was set to air in the pregame commercial slots, but by “pure luck,” it was bumped up to the real game airtime.
The state lottery hopes that this commercial will further the already successful sales of their new scratch-off tickets. Since their release Feb. 7, there have already been $3 million in sales, according to MassLive.
Look out for Taylor, Shane Taylor that is, during the Super Bowl commercials.
