Bullet casings from a handgun found at Arlington school

K-9 units searched the building, and police said no more casings or any weapons were found.

Bullet casings were found inside an Arlington school for sixth graders Wednesday morning, police said, prompting the school to temporarily shelter in place.

Around 9:30 a.m., a staff member at the Gibbs School found two casings from a 9 mm handgun in the main staircase, officials said. They informed the school resource officer, and Arlington police responded to the school.

Arlington police launched a shelter-in-place order while K-9 units searched the building. Police said no more casings or any weapons were found. The order was lifted at 12:05 p.m.

The Gibbs School enrolls more than 450 sixth graders, who were already set to have an early dismissal on Wednesday. Arlington police stayed on campus until students were dismissed at 1:20 p.m.
