Driver dead after crashing into Somerset house

The house was deemed temporarily uninhabitable due to the damage, but residents were safety evacuated, police said.

A driver died after crashing into a house in Somerset early Sunday morning, police said. 

Somerset police received a report that a vehicle had crashed into a house on South Street at around 2:50 a.m. Sunday, according to a statement by the Somerset Police Department. Officers found that a gray Chevy Silverado had struck the home. 

The driver of the vehicle, who was the only one in the car, was pronounced dead on scene. Residents of the house were evacuated and no other injuries were reported, police said. 

The house was deemed “temporarily uninhabitable” due to the damage caused by the crash, according to officials. National Grid and Liberty Utility also assisted at the scene.

The crash is being investigated by the Somerset Police Department’s Detective Unit, Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, State Police Crime Prevention and Control Unit, and the Bristol County District Attorney’s office.
