A Massachusetts police dog helped officers find a missing 12-year-old child Wednesday, police said.
The Auburn Police Department was notified at around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday that a 12-year-old child had left their home approximately two hours earlier and was last seen in the Pakachoag Hill area, officials said in a statement on Thursday.
Freezing temperatures and the “nature of the incident” prompted a response from Auburn police officers and detectives and state police troopers, the department said.
An officer and his police dog, Biza, were deployed to the area. Biza was able to pick up and track a scent for over two miles, leading officers to an area where evidence indicated the child had been present earlier, according to the statement.
Officers were able to locate the child and reunite them with their family a short time later. The child is safe, police said.
“We are proud of the hard work put in by K9 Biza and are happy to report a positive outcome!,” Auburn police said in a statement.
