A pedestrian was struck and killed on Route 1A in East Boston on Saturday evening, police said.
Officers responded to the area of Addison Street and McClellan Highway at around 5:21 p.m. for reports of a motor vehicle accident, a Boston Police Department spokesperson said. While officers were en route, they were notified that a pedestrian had been struck.
Firefighters were on scene aiding the patient when police arrived, the spokesperson said. Boston EMS pronounced the victim deceased on the scene. The age and gender of the individual had not been publicly identified as of Sunday night, though police said the victim was an adult.
The driver of the vehicle that struck the pedestrian remained on the scene, according to the spokesperson.
The department’s fatal accident team and the homicide team are investigating the crash.
