South Carolina man drowns in N.H. lake

The 38-year-old man reportedly went out to swim in the lake near a home he was staying at and never came back.

A 38-year-old South Carolina man drowned in a lake in Bristol, New Hampshire, Monday evening.

Around 6:15 p.m., New Hampshire State Police were notified of a possible drowning near Arrowhead Point Road on Newfound Lake, police said in a news release.

Charleston resident Ole Romero reportedly went out to swim in the lake near a home he was staying at and never came back, police said.

Bristol firefighters got to the scene first and went out onto the lake in a boat. Police said they soon found Romero about 140 feet from shore.

The firefighters took Romero to an ambulance where paramedics tried to resuscitate him, but he was declared dead at the scene, police said.
