State police are investigating a multi-vehicle crash in Sharon that left a 29-year-old woman dead on Tuesday.
Troopers responded to reports of the crash on Route 1 southbound, just a quarter mile north of Old Post Road, around 12:05 p.m. on Tuesday, according to police.
The initial investigation found the crash occurred when a Ford Escape, operated by a 32-year-old Norwood man, struck a tractor-trailer that was stopped in the breakdown lane. Police said the Escape then went into a spin, careening into the left lane and striking a pickup truck that was driving by.
The passenger in the Escape, a 29-year-old woman from Norwood, was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The drivers of the Escape and pickup were both taken to the hospital with minor injuries, according to police. The driver and passenger in the tractor-trailer were out of the vehicle at the time of the crash and not injured.
Police said the exact cause and circumstances of the crash remain under investigation.
