Tyngsborough police are investigating a fatal crash involving a red Toyota Corolla and a dump truck, according to a statement from Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Tyngsborough Chief of Police Richard Howe.
According to authorities, police were en route to check the well-being of a resident around 1 p.m., when officers spotted the red Toyota Corolla.
Because the car matched the caller’s description, officers tried to stop the car, according to police.
Officials say the Corolla’s driver, who was not identified, crossed the center line on Westford Road and struck the garbage truck head-on.
The driver of the Corolla died at the scene, according to police. The garbage truck driver, who was not identified, was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the statement.
Authorities are investigating the crash. No charges have been filed and no additional information is being released at this time, according to the statement.
