Officials say 40-year-old Karl Sault of Hull was charged with domestic assault and battery, breaking and entering, and intimidation of a witness.

Hull police say they arrested a man who is accused of stealing a vehicle, crashing it into a pole and killing a passenger, then fleeing the scene by foot, invading a home blocks away, and assaulting someone there.

According to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office, 40-year-old Karl Sault of Hull was charged with domestic assault and battery, breaking and entering, and intimidation of a witness. He is scheduled to appear at Hingham District Court on Monday.

Authorities say they received reports of a Ford F150 stolen from an auto body shop on Nantasket Avenue just after 10 p.m. Thursday.

Soon after the report, an officer spotted a vehicle matching the description of the one reported stolen, according to police.

Officials say the officer followed the vehicle, which appeared to lose control and crash into a pole near the intersection of George Washington Boulevard and Rockaway Avenue.

The officer attempted to provide first aid to the passenger, later identified as 52-year-old Michael Peters of Hull, according to authorities. Police say Peters died at the scene.

According to officials the driver, who police identified as Sault, fled the scene.

Shortly after the crash, police received a report of an invasion and domestic assault at 1621 Avalon Drive, which is located just minutes from the scene of the crash, the district attorney’s office said.
