It’s a particularly joyful New Year for the parents of Aria Grace, who was the first baby born in Boston in 2022.
The baby girl was born Jan. 1, 2022, at 12:05 a.m. at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, weighing in at 7 pounds 5 ounces, the hospital announced.
“Mom and baby are resting comfortably,” hospital officials said in a statement.
Brigham and Women’s also released a photo of the baby, cradled by her beaming parents, Taiana and Alexander.

Each New Year, Boston area hospitals — including Brigham and Women, Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), Tufts Medical Center, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston Medical Center, and St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center — keep each other posted on deliveries so the city can welcome the first baby of the year.
After Aria Grace was born, a boy and then a girl were born at MGH, arriving at 1:43 a.m. and 3:02 a.m., respectively. Later, at 4:33 a.m., a boy was born at Tufts.
