An Indiana man accused of killing his girlfriend was arrested Wednesday in Newton by Massachusetts State Police and U.S. Marshals, according to a statement.
Troopers from the Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section and deputy marshals located Alexander Ortiz, 36, of Anderson, Indiana, parked in a rest stop on Interstate 95 south in Newton at approximately 7 a.m. Wednesday, according to officials.
Ortiz, who was found in the victim’s 2007 Acura, was arrested and booked at the State Police-Framingham Barracks, according to police.
Officials say Ortiz is accused of the Dec. 21 killing of 37-year-old Andrea Aguirre, who died from multiple stab wounds inside the bedroom of her Anderson, Indiana, home.
Aguirre’s two toddlers were in the home with her and were unharmed, according to police.
Ortiz was arraigned as fugitive from justice, according to the statement. Prosecutors will arrange his rendition to Indiana to face the homicide charges.
