A male passenger died in a Swampscott crash early Wednesday morning, and the driver remained in critical condition later that morning, according to the Essex District Attorney’s Office.
Emergency personnel responded to the single-vehicle crash at about 2 a.m. near 245 Paradise Road (Route 1A). A 2005 Honda Accord had crashed into a tree, authorities said.
Both the driver and passenger were taken to North Shore Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, where the passenger, who has not been publicly identified, was pronounced dead. The driver, also a male, was then transported to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston where he remained in critical condition Wednesday morning, according to the DA’s office.
The crash remained under investigation.
