‘Stay vigilant’: State rep. says man tried to lure her out of car in Stoughton parking lot

Police said it was the second time in two weeks they had received a call like this.

A state representative said a man attempted to lure her out of her car while she was in the parking lot of the Target in Stoughton late Sunday afternoon.

Rep. Alyson Sullivan said the man claimed her vehicle had an oil leak.

“I checked my car when it was safe to do so and I did not have an oil leak,” she said in a Facebook post, noting that she contacted police.

Stoughton police said in a Facebook post that it was the second time in two weeks they had fielded a call like this.

“In the previous call we were unable to get a vehicle description, but the physical description of the male did fit,” police said. “He is described as a white male in his 50’s or 60’s driving a white Jeep Patriot. Our investigation into this revealed similar calls in area towns involving a similar Jeep Patriot.”

Stoughton authorities said they’re asking anyone involved in a similar incident to call police. They also said they’re adding patrols to shopping areas.

“Please be aware of your surroundings especially when out alone shopping,” Sullivan said. “Remember to never get out of your car. If concerned call the police for assistance. Stay vigilant.”
