Child seriously hurt, family hospitalized in West Roxbury pedestrian crash

The incident happened just before 10 a.m. Friday near Centre and Hastings streets.

A child was seriously hurt, and their entire family of five was sent to the hospital, when they were struck by a vehicle Friday morning in West Roxbury.

The incident happened just prior to 10 a.m. near Centre and Hastings streets. The victims did not appear to have life-threatening injuries, according to NBC10 Boston.

In a photo, a pickup truck can be seen hanging over what looks like a retaining wall. A baby stroller can be seen lying on its side on the ground next to it with other debris. Those involved were a set of parents plus three children, who were said to be walking when it happened.

“I heard the loud noise. I looked back and I seen people attending to the carriage,” Shakeita Haynes told the news station.

The incident remains under investigation.

“This is unacceptable,” Mayor Michelle Wu said on Twitter. “Whether walking, riding or driving, Boston families must be safe on our roads. Keeping this family in my thoughts & praying for a quick, full recovery.”
