Stoneham police investigate social media threat made by middle school student

"We take all threatening language that affects our town’s schools seriously and we are confident that there is no credible threat at this time."

Stoneham police are investigating a threat posted to social media by a Central Middle School student, according to a statement from Chief James McIntyre and Superintendent John Macero.

Around 11 a.m. Tuesday, officials say school staff members became aware of a student’s post on Snapchat that contained threatening language.

School administrators brought the information to police, who have also been investigating reports of threats made toward individuals, according to the statement.

“We take all threatening language that affects our town’s schools seriously and we are confident that there is no credible threat at this time,” McIntyre said. “There is no room for this kind of behavior.”

School staff and police met with students Wednesday morning to reassure them that the school remains safe, according to the officials.

Police plan to have an increased presence at the school for the remainder of the week.

“The importance of our close, collaborative relationship with the Stoneham Police Department has been on display throughout this week and I am grateful for their support in ensuring the continued safety of our school community,” Macero said.
