State police investigate fatal car crashes around the state

Three people were killed in crashes in Lancaster, Mansfield, and Medford, according to state police.

State police are investigating a series of fatal car crashes over the last few days across Massachusetts.

The crashes are unrelated, and happened in different parts of the state.

California woman dies in Lancaster

Troopers responded Monday around 10:35 a.m. to a crash on I-190 northbound in Lancaster, according to a statement.

Officials say two vehicles were involved in the collision. One of the drivers, a 63-year-old woman from Pasadena, California, died before the troopers arrived, according to the statement.

In the other car, authorities said the occupants were injured and taken to a local hospital.

I-190 northbound was closed for approximately 90 minutes during the investigation and cleanup of the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by the state police. Troopers were assisted at the scene by Lancaster Fire and EMS, the Office of the Medical Examiner, and MassDOT.

Rhode Island man dies in Mansfield crash

On Monday, state police identified the victim of Thursday’s fatal crash on I-495 southbound in Mansfield as Valdemeiro Teixeira, 39, of Rumford, Rhode Island, according to a statement.

Troopers responded Thursday at 5:30 a.m. to reports of a single-car crash near mile marker 33 in Mansfield.

Police found a 2009 Lexus sedan that had left the roadway and crashed into a tree, according to the statement.

Police said, “The sole occupant of the vehicle (was) declared deceased on scene by paramedics.”

According to officials, no other vehicles were involved in the crash.

The left and middle lanes of I-495 southbound were closed for investigation and cleanup until 7:30 a.m., according to the statement.

Malden man dies in Medford crash

Troopers, along with Medford police and fire, responded Sunday around 12:25 p.m. to reports of a single-car crash on Mystic Avenue near Fulbright Street in Medford, according to a statement.

Troopers found a 2008 Toyota Prius that had left the roadway and crashed into a tree, according to officials.

The driver, Airton Dutra-Moraes, 47, of Malden, was taken to a Boston area hospital where he died from his injuries, according to the statement.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash, according to officials.

Police said lanes were closed at the scene until 3 p.m. for the investigation and cleanup.

The exact cause and circumstances of the crash remain under investigation by state police.
