Fall River man fatally shot by police in his home identified

A 30-year-old Fall River man was killed by police Monday evening after they went to his home regarding a prior alleged domestic assault incident.

Around 5:10 p.m., police went to Lowell Street to speak with a woman who said that she had been assaulted by her boyfriend, Anthony Harden, on Saturday.

Police then went to Harden’s apartment at 120 Melville St. around 6:05 p.m. There, they went into the apartment and an altercation allegedly took place. At one point during the altercation, two shots were fired by an officer.

A knife was also found on scene.

Police aided Harden and called for an ambulance. He was taken to St. Anne’s Hospital, where he died.

Both officers were taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation. One or both had been released last night, said Bristol District Attorney Thomas Quinn during a press conference, as recorded by WJAR.

Harden’s uncle, meanwhile, says that his nephew shouldn’t have been killed.

“Why’d you kill my nephew?” Don Mack asked police while speaking with WCVB. “Law enforcement should be trained to handle these situations. There’s no reason why he should be dead.”
