SUV flips and crashes into Plymouth condo building

The driver, who was the only one injured, suffered serious injuries.

An SUV crashed into a boulder, went airborne, and landed upside down on a Plymouth porch Thursday morning.

The crash occurred on Cherry Street at 9:20 a.m., WBZ reported. Video of the aftermath shows serious damage to the car, backyard, and porch.

The driver — who was the only one injured during the incident and the only person in the vehicle — suffered serious injuries, according to WBZ. He was airlifted by medical helicopter to Boston Medical Center and is reportedly in his 50s or 60s.

WCVB reported it took 32 minutes for firefighters to get the driver out of the vehicle.

“We immediately heard and felt it. It shook the entire building,” Brian Suitor, a resident of the condo hit by the car, told WBZ. “I looked right out my window and saw the vehicle flipped over, immediately told my wife to call 911.”

According to WBZ, the SUV almost hit a woman inside the condo.

Police told reporters they believe the car was going too fast down a hill on Cherry Street when the SUV rear-ended another car, hit a boulder, and then flew into the condo’s porch.

“There’s a large boulder that was right at the edge of the road — kind of for that purpose — struck that boulder, caused the car to go down the hill towards the house,” Plymouth Fire Chief Ed Bradley told WBZ.

Police said the driver was either speeding or suffered a medical issue right before the crash. The incident remains under investigation, according to WBZ.
