A serious crash took place Thursday night at approximately 9 p.m. where Harvard Street and Wood Avenue hit Cummins Highway in Mattapan. The highway was closed down for several hours as a result.
Upon arriving at the scene, Boston police found a red SUV flipped over and another vehicle damaged, according to department spokesman Sgt. Det. John Boyle. The Boston Fire Department was also present at the scene.
Neighbors told WCVB that they heard screeching tire noises before the crash occurred. The damage to both cars was extensive.
Boyle said those involved in the crash suffered life-threatening injuries and were transported to local hospitals.
An accident reconstruction team was present at the scene, investigating the cause of the crash, which remains unknown. Neighbors who spoke with WCVB also said many cars speed through the intersection.
