TAUNTON — A 12-year-old boy was seriously injured after being struck by a car on Friday night, according to a statement from the Taunton Police Department.
About 6:30 p.m. on Friday, the Taunton police and fire departments responded to 43 Plain St. for a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian, according to the statement.
Upon arrival, officers located the boy, who was suffering from serious injuries.
The boy was transported by Brewster Ambulance to Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence, according to police.
Police say the initial investigation indicates that the boy was crossing the street with a family member when he slipped and fell backward into the path of an oncoming vehicle. The boy was struck by a 2006 Nissan Sentra traveling westbound.
The driver remained at the scene and was cooperative with police, according to the statement.
No charges have been filed, and speed is not believed to be a factor in the crash, according to police.
Taunton police and fire departments were assisted at the scene by the Taunton Police Accident Reconstruction Team, which is continuing to investigate.
