5 Kingston Elementary staff members taken to hospital after reporting dizziness

Five staff members were taken to the hospital after they all reported feeling dizzy and ill in the same wing of a Kingston Elementary School.

The school was temporarily evacuated and ambulances were called in around 11:30 a.m., WBZ reported, after several students and staff members in the second-grade wing started feeling unwell. 

District Superintendent Dr. Jill Proulx initially told Boston 25 News the school “had a report from a few staff who felt dizzy.”  After the fire department assessed the situation, it later reported that 10 students and staff were evaluated and five were taken to the hospital.

Students and staff returned to the building after about two hours, when the fire and school facilities departments deemed it safe. The Kingston Fire Department told Boston 25 news there were no elevated carbon monoxide readings, and determined there was no ongoing health threat. 

“Thank you for your patience as we worked to make sure the building was safe for all,” principal Kerri Whipple said in a statement to WBZ.

The cause remains unknown and is under investigation. School was dismissed at a regular time.
