Family members have identified the 11-year-old boy struck in an alleged hit-and-run in Dorchester, and say that he has a long recovery ahead of him.
Francis Nedwell was reportedly struck around 7:24 a.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Columbia Road and Intervale Street. Police say they’ve since found and confiscated the involved vehicle.
Police announced Friday morning that they’ve also identified the driver of the GMC SUV that allegedly struck Nedwell and that complaints are being filed in Roxbury District Court. The driver has not been publicly identified.
Meanwhile, Nedwell is in stable condition at Boston Children’s Hospital. He’s suffering from damage to his lungs, a broken pelvis, and six broken ribs, among other injuries, his family told Boston 25.
Nedwell, who is in fifth grade, had just gotten off an MBTA bus with his mom and sister a few blocks away from the Dorchester campus of Roxbury Prep.
“This is brutal. This is inhuman,” Nedwell’s aunt, Kimberly Jones, told the news station, addressing the driver. “There’s a family here that needs you to be responsible for this.”
