Two elderly women are dead after a car crashed into a house in Needham this morning.
The driver of the car, an 89-year-old man, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The two passengers, an 89-year-old woman and an 86-year-old woman, were taken to the hospital before being pronounced dead.
The Norfolk District Attorney’s Office later identified the 89-year-old woman was as Ann Segal and the 86-year-old woman as Dr. Claire Van Ummersen, both of whom are from Needham. Van Ummersen reportedly served as chancellor of the University of New Hampshire and vice-chancellor of the Board of Regents at the University of Massachusetts.
The crash occurred around 10:20 a.m. when a 2009 BMW slammed into a house located at 860 Central Avenue in Needham, according to police. The Norfolk DA reported the car was traveling down North Hill Avenue and left the roadway at the road’s intersection with Central Avenue.

Two Fatally Injured
On Wednesday, September 29, 2021, at approximately 10:20 AM Needham Police and Fire personnel responded to a report of a Motor Vehicle crash into a house at 860 Central Ave.
Police report there are no charges at this time, and an investigation is ongoing.
