The president of the Polish American Citizens Club was shocked to find surveillance video footage showing a man bending down a flagpole and pulling off the American flag. The incident occurred Saturday afternoon in just seven seconds, and the man can be seen walking away with the flag, the pole left on the ground.
The club, which has been active since 1939, raised money to install both the American and Polish flags at Pulaski Park in Dorchester five years ago, 7News reported.
“I was like … I couldn’t even move, because I was so hurt,” Stasia Kacprzak, the president, told 7News. “Why would anyone do that?”
Kacprzak hopes that the incident was not ensued by anti-American hate but just a case of vandalism.
“Is it a political statement? Is it just out of anger? Is it random? I don’t know,” club treasurer Peter Dziedzic told 7News. “That is the weirdest part is trying to understand why this happened because it really doesn’t make any sense.”
The club has a GoFundMe to fund the repairs of the flagpole as well as raise money to repair their damaged roof from the storms in the summer.
