2 dead in I-91 wrong-way crash, police say

A third person was in critical condition on Sunday night, officials said.

Two people are dead after one driver, who was traveling the wrong way on Interstate 91 in Holyoke on Sunday evening, collided with an oncoming vehicle, police said.

The driver, of a Subaru registered in New York who was not identified, was heading north in the highway’s southbound lane near the 13.8 mile marker just before 6 p.m., Massachusetts State Police said in a statement.

The driver collided with a vehicle, registered in Connecticut, that was carrying two people, who were also not identified, authorities said. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene, according to officials.

The passenger of the second vehicle was in critical condition as of later Sunday night, police said.
