IPSWICH — A 16-year-old bicyclist died Friday, after he was struck by a Ford pickup truck on Route 1A across from the Southern Heights housing complex, according to a statement from the Ipswich Police Department.
Police have not released the identities of those involved.
An Ipswich patrol officer witnessed the collision around 6 p.m. and began first-aid.
According to police, the truck driver was traveling northbound and the teen was traveling southbound in the northbound lane at the time of the crash.
The boy received treatment at the scene, then was taken by ambulance to an area hospital where he later died from his injuries, according to the statement.
The driver, a 61-year-old Manchester-by-the-Sea man, remained at the scene and was cooperative with the police.
The incident remains under investigation by the Ipswich Police Department, the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section and the Essex County District Attorney’s Office.
