95-year-old man reportedly drowns in Ipswich on Tuesday

A 95-year-old man is dead after he reportedly drowned in Ipswich Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities responded to a 911 call around 1:51 p.m. for “an unresponsive male” near the Little Neck Association Dock along the Ipswich River, according to a press release from police.

The person who called tried to resuscitate the man until emergency responders arrived. A town Harbor Patrol boat also went to the scene around 1:56 p.m. to help.

The man, identified as Ross Hamlin, of Ipswich, was taken to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead soon afterward.

Authorities are continuing to investigate. They don’t suspect foul play.

Multiple drownings have occurred throughout the summer, including a 17-year-old in Groton, another 17-year-old in Dedham, an 11-year-old in Lowell, and a 19-year-old at Castle Island.
