This may not be Kansas, but much like Dorothy’s home was blown away in “The Wizard of Oz,” the storms Wednesday night literally blew a Weymouth organization’s building right off its base.
Workers with In Control Crash Prevention, a nonprofit which teaches drivers, new and experienced, how to avoid getting into traffic accidents, discovered that their classroom was blown away and left crumbling nearby Thursday morning. WCVB reported that the building was carried about 30 feet, and came to rest in the middle of a ditch.
“We survived the pandemic and now our building blew away!!!” the organization said in a Facebook post. “But we’re not going anywhere. It’s been one of the worst summers for crashes on record and there are a lot more new and experienced drivers out there that need our help.”
The organization plans to set up a temporary classroom as soon as it can, and will focus on getting students behind the wheel while they sort it out – their cars weren’t damaged by the dislodged building.
“It looks like the whole thing was actually lifted off the ground because there’s no slide marks out there,” Jeremy Randall said, who serves as In Control’s operations director, told WCVB.
The organization is taking donations, which will help cover costs not paid for by insurance.
That powerful thunderstorm that came through Weymouth last night – destroyed a non-profit, pushing their office and classroom back 30 feet into a ditch. All the details tonight at 4:30PM/5:30PM on #WCVB pic.twitter.com/vZJE6jxPhp
