A woman was killed when her vehicle landed upside down in the Eel River near Route 3 in Plymouth Monday afternoon.
First responders responded to the scene on the southbound side of the road, near the Jordan Road overpass, around 12:50 p.m., according to a statement from the Plymouth Fire Department.
Plymouth Fire Chief Ed Bradley said the woman’s vehicle entered the median and hit trees and bushes before going airborne, WCVB reports.

The vehicle then crossed a guardrail and landed upside down in a gully with heavy damage, the outlet reports. It was partially submerged in the river, which flows under Route 3.
The woman, whose identity has not been released, was the only occupant of the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene, according to WCVB.
The cause of the crash was not yet clear Monday.
