‘It just wasn’t pretty’: Plymouth police investigating apparent organized boxing match on White Horse Beach

Plymouth police are investigating after officers were called to an apparent boxing match with dozens of people gathered around the fighters at White Horse Beach on Sunday.

Police received a call for a reported fight around 2:45 p.m., according to The Boston Globe. The crowd, however, was breaking up when officers arrived, and no one was arrested.

A video then surfaced online showing two men in boxing gloves on the beach with people surrounding them.

“It looks like it was kind of an organized boxing match,” Capt. Kevin Manuel of Plymouth police told the Globe. “At this point, we have no victim, we have no suspects, but this is still under investigation.”

“Even two consenting adults can’t go out in public and have a mutual agreement to assault each other,” he added. “You can’t agree to assault and battery.”

Those boxing, as well as people in the crowd, could face disorderly conduct charges, the newspaper reported. Town officials told WBZ there could be steeper fines in the future for those who park at the beach and don’t have resident stickers.

“It just wasn’t pretty, and it just can’t happen again,” Betty Cavacco of the town’s Select Board told the news station. “I can’t have residents that are afraid to come out of their houses, that can’t come and enjoy the beach.”
