Revere Beach to get parking meters next month; lanes will be closed while they’re installed
Will you still head to Revere for surf and sun after meters go live May 1?
The sun, sand, and surf are still free at Revere Beach, but parking won’t be for long.
New parking meters are being installed along Revere Beach Boulevard, the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation announced recently.
Drivers to the nation’s first public beach will have to pay $1.25 an hour to park along the entire length of the boulevard between Eliot Circle and Carey Circle starting May 1.
Work on installing the meters began Monday and will continue through Friday, April 23. There will be rolling lane closures between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. for installation work.
Public meetings on meter installation were held in October. The DCR also proposed installing new meters along parts of the Fenway, Park Drive, and Charlesgate East in Boston, Memorial Drive and Cambridge Parkway in Cambridge, and Dealtry Pool in Watertown.
Revere Beach opened to the public under the auspices of what was then known as the Metropolitan Park Commission in 1896.
