Missing dog reunited with owner after being on the run for 5 years
Bay was found about 9 miles from her Framingham home.
After nearly five years on the run, Bay, a dog missing from Framingham, is now back safely under her human mom’s roof with the help of some volunteers. And, as the Missing Dogs Massachusetts Facebook page said, it’s “something to give every owner HOPE!”Bay, a Basenji mix, was only about 1 1/2 years old when she went missing from Beacon Street / Cavanaugh Road back on June 26, 2016, according to the Facebook page. Since then, she had been spotted wandering in Needham in 2019, and some thought she was Cannoli, a dog missing from Stoughton since 2018. Bay showed up at the same property, and at Needham’s dump, “sporadically,” and those who saw her figured out it wasn’t Cannoli.“Many had been feeding the dog as well. It was thought that it was a dog that had an owner and was allowed to roam,” the Facebook post said. “Then the dog would go off the grid as they often do.”Then, Bay showed up at the same property again, and a volunteer with Missing Dogs Massachusetts maintained contact with the woman who lived there.“Attempts to trap her were unsuccessful as it became evident that this street savvy girl was not going to go in a conventional trap,” the post said. With some Missing Dogs Massachusetts volunteers, and Needham’s Animal Control officer, a kennel trap was set up, and Bay was found inside on Tuesday, the post said.

Bay, who was identified with a microchip, still had her collar on; the tags had gone missing and it had to be cut off because it had become “embedded in her neck.” She was about 9 miles from her home.
“As you can see, she has not been lacking for meals,” the post said.
A video posted to the Missing Dogs’ Facebook page shows Bay’s reunion with her mom, who had only had her about six months when she went missing. In the video, she appears excited to be home, with much tail wagging.
