Swampscott police investigating after rope tied like noose in park
“Hopefully it was left there for an innocent reason, but we have to take a look.”

A rope found tied to a tree in Swampscott.
A rope that appeared to look like a noose was found tied around a large tree branch in Linscott Park in Swampscott, according to police.
The rope was found Monday morning, and the loop at the end was about 4 feet from the ground, according to a Facebook post from local police.
“The SPD is hoping that this was left behind and used for an alternate purpose other than what it appears to be,” police said.
The person who called police was “shocked,” Sgt. Jay Locke told NBC10 Boston. He also noted that the park has hosted many protests over the last year, adding to the need to investigate.
“We have seen everything from people mad the governor is opening up the state to COVID issues to Black Lives Matter,” he told the news station. “Hopefully it was left there for an innocent reason, but we have to take a look.”
Police are asking for the public’s help with the investigation. Anyone who may know something is asked to call the department at 781-595 -1111.
