An online fundraiser has been set up for the family of the 18-year-old killed in a traffic crash Wednesday night in East Boston, to help pay for his services.

Jonathan A. Hernandez, of Chelsea, was killed when the car he was in struck a telephone pole after colliding with another vehicle just prior to 8 p.m. along Route 1A near Addison Street. Another teenager within the vehicle suffered what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

“It goes without saying that these are very tough times,” a family member wrote in the fundraiser description. “We ask that if anyone is willing to donate to his services, please do. Anything helps. He was loved by many and this is very tough for everyone.”

As of around 2:30 p.m., the fundraiser had taken in nearly $6,400 with a stated goal of $20,000.
