Boston firefighters battled a three-alarm fire that engulfed a Roxbury home Monday afternoon.

Companies were on scene at 48 Edgewood Street, about 10 minutes south of Nubian Square, by around 4:50 p.m. Photos shared on Twitter by the Boston Fire Department show the fire erupting from the roof of the six-family home.

The fire was largely neutralized by 6 p.m., and the six adults and four children inside were evacuated and accounted for. One resident was sent to the hospital after they were hit by falling chimney bricks. Some firefighters stayed later into the night to control and monitor the remaining hot spots.

The department said that heavy wind fueled the fire, threatening to spread it to nearby buildings.

Firefighters were forced to leave the building by 5:10 p.m., and the roof had caved in by 5:30 p.m. All companies were on scene with many hoses in an attempt to control the fire.

The fire department has not yet stated a cause of the fire.

This is a developing story.
